(This is DRAFT in the process)
Camping in Iceland is easy and pleasant (should I say – it is the cheapest way of accommodation as well?)
First of all get a FREE guide “TJALDSVÆÐI ÍSLANDS – Camping in Iceland” at airport and any other places with tourist information – hotels, info centers etc.
Second – check these sites Campsites in Iceland and Reykjavik camp site to get an idea about what kind of campsites you can find, how much they cost etc.

Another camping site Dreki (next to Askja at the end of road F88). One story building – toilets, showers, sinks for the camp site users. Stones – to keep tents grounded.
Another type of campsite – in the heart of Reykjavik – Reykjavik Campsite, classified as 5 Stars site. It is indeed five stars – with all facilities available at camp site and at Youth Hostel.
Next door to the Campsite are Iceland’s biggest geothermal swimming pool, a SPA and a fully equipped gym, a botanical garden, petting zoo and all necessities i.e. grocery stores, bank with ATM, restaurants, the city buses.
Area for the tents. At the background – Reykjavik Youth Hostel – one among 36 hostels around Iceland
Area for caravans. Box in front of the caravan – electricity post. At the background – swimming pool. It’s so “empty” only because photo was taken in a weekday in May ;-)
